I went to the cemetery to check on my mom's grave the other day, and caught the sunset looking sweet on my car. My mom was a car lover as well, so it kind of felt like she was smiling down on me.

HEY. You. i'm house/car-watching for a friend this week. 2008 speed3, new engine at 50k, currently at 80k. He loves cars but knows much less than me, and is fooled by this car. Has been bogging at low revs in first and second to an extent that the whole car bucks. No fueling or ignitiion problems because it's all new and at WOT it runs perfectly. Also, the coolant gauge skyrockets after 10 minutes of normal driving. I'm going to run OBDII tomo, but what could do this in a speed3? EGR need cleaned? Also, new O2 sensors and throttle body. MAF?

The main issue with the early Speeds is fuel pump internals. They are notoriously weak from the factory, as are the motor mounts. I'd check both of those regarding the bucking. Coolant temp spiking...not sure. Was a coolant flush ever done or has one been done? Is it possible that there is air in the system? Those are my first thoughts.

no, checked the oil after i took her for a walk today, and it says the oil level is far past max.... However the car was on a slight grade. I'm going to push it to a normal grade and check again tomorrow.. that's also obviously a problem but i don't see how it'd allow the car to perform under a high load perfectly? I'll look into the fuel pump and motor mounts.. and aftermarket fuel pump suggestions?... Last thing, i promise, i put the window down, and when i put it back up, the whole god damn glass came up sideways. I had to put it back down and then very carefully guide it back up.. but the rear end of the glass literally came out of the door as if it was pivoting near the rear view mirror.... Hard to explain, but is this a common speed3 problem?

Not too sure on Speeds. Mine is just an N/A 3. But, my window moves a lot during going up and down. But it always latches. I'd say there's probably one plastic clip that has broken or loosened and is letting the glass move more freely than it should.

Corksport makes pretty much anything and everything worthwhile for Speed 3s. I think most people that upgrade fuel pumps or pump internals go with HPP.

I love the first-gen 3. I've only driven the second gen smiley one, but even that was fantastically fun. The 5-speed in my friend's 2010 is one of the best shifters I've ever come across. The steering is perfect too. Nice pic!

Thank you. She was a good person, and I miss her a lot. She passed away in 2001, when I was 11. But, I cherish the memories I do have with her.

My next car, considering my small-ish budget, will probably be one of the smiley ones. I'd prefer another hatch, though, based on the practicality of my current one. Mine has been a great car and lots of fun as well, and this August, I will have owned it for five years.
